The waste land

The waste land modern era epic poem by T.S.Eliot.
   Generally meaning of waste land means waste useless land .The waste land is not only a London poem it is also a European poem .The waste land divided into five parts.
1)The Burial of the Dead
2)A game of chess
3)The fire sermon
4)Death by water
5) What the thunder said
   We feel poet was sad in the poem waste land we feel he was depressed.He used many Greek myth in the poem.We can see the effect of world war in the waste land.Sexual perversion leading towards spiritual draught.
1) What are your views on the following image after reading 'The waste land'?Do you think that Eliot is regressive as compared to Nietzsche's views? Or Has Eliot achieved universality of thought by recalling mythology historical answer to the contemporary malaise?

  Ans.  I think  Eliot was  regressive to compared Nietzsche's views.Eliot  used spirituality,sexuality in his poem.
   April is the cruellest month.....
 So in this lines Eliot talked about more regressive way that April considered as one of the most cruellest month .
He talked about spirituality , Fisherman,myth in the east land.So sexuality,lust lead to end of  spirituality.He describe April as the month of shower.
2) What are you views regarding these comments?Is it true  that giving free vent to the repressed'primitive instinct lead us to happy and satisfied life?or do you agree with Eliot's view that salvation of man lies in the preservation of the cultural tradition?

Ans.Yes,I agree with Eliot's view about primitive instinct and salvation of man lies in the preservation of the cultural tradition.So Eliot believed in self control.He also talked about preservation.
  There is two type of people in the world.One is in self control and one is not full fill because of this  hunger not satisfied.They fullfil his hunger people have many wishes they can't get satisfaction and more wishes come one by one their never ending.So they never fulfilling and hunger become more and more.So I agree with Eliot's view primitive instinct lead us to happy and satisfied life.
3) Write about allusions to the Indian thoughts in 'The waste land'(Where,How and Why are the Indian thoughts referred?)
Ans.In the waste land poem the poet use of many Indian thoughts like,
Ganga was sunken and the limpleaves waited for rain,while the black clouds Gathered fardistant,over Himavat
      So Eliot used Ganga pure river and national river of India.He also talk about Great Mountain Himalaya.
So he used Indian symbols
'Shantih,shantih,shantih'
He used the word shantih in his poem .Means peaceful life.So he used basic theme in his poem based on Indian thought.
So he inspired to India so he take some Indian thoughts in the poem waste land.He used last shantih mantra.

Scarlet letter and the movie Kya kahna

2)Story of The scarlet letter.
           In the novel Hester married with Roger chilling worth.She waited her husband but he never came.Then she meet Summerdale and she attracted to him.He was priest in the church.Dimmesdale also attracted to her so both make physical relation ship to each other.So Hester became pregnant.Every body asked about who was the father of the child but she was silent so society punished her to wear symbol 'A' scarlet Letter every time.And society unsalted to her and her daughter purl.Now her husband came and know that she has affair and the child was her lover he wants to revenge with Hester and her lover.In the end Summerdale accepted he was father of purl.

Story of movie
            Priya is the main female character of the movie.Her parents,her brothers loved to her very much.She meet Rahul in the college.Both are attracted to each other.Rahul has many affair with many girls.Her brother warn to her never meet Rahul but she love him both make physical relation ship with out marriage  and Priya became pregnant but Rahul was not ready to marry with her so he gave her to advised to abort the child.But Priya gave birth the child.In the end Rahul wants to marry with her but she decides to marry with Ajay because he always gave support to her in bad condition.

3) Society dislike to Hester because she became mother without marriage.So people hate rate to Hester.Womens are installed to her.So according to society she was not good women and pure woman.People thinks that she should be hanged her.
-Role played by society in Priya's life
    Priya faced many insulted by the society.Students make fun to her people used many not good words for Priya.All people , students hatred to her.Rahul's mother also insulted to her.

4)Compare of the male characters of the novel and film.
-Arthur Summerdale and Rahul both are handsome.
-Both are attracted to females character
-Both of them make physical relation with out marriage
-Both male characters not accepted the child as father.Both have no courage to accept the child in publicly
-Both entry like hero in Bollywood style.

Contrast the male  characters
-Ajay was very kind and good person he loved so much to Priya but Roger Hester's husband hatred to Hester .He wanted to take revenge to her and her lover.
_Rahul has many affairs with many girls but Summerdale only loved to Hester.
-Arthur feel guilty inside himself whenever society blame Hester but Rahul was not stand near by Priya .

5)compare
Humiliated in  public(Scaffold scene)
_In the novel society decided to hang Hester and gave her punishment of death because people think that she was not good women for the society.
-Humiliation in public(Staged performance)
In the film also society thinks that Priya should be die so students played a role in the character of Priya and died in the drama.So in both movie and novel people wants to death of female character.

And in the film student performed role of Priya she die to drink poison.
6)Rahul and Summerdale they have no courage to accept the child as publicly .
- In the end of novel Dimmesdale accepted purl as a father in publicly
-But in film Priya refused to marry with Rahul  and she decided to marry with Ajay So Ajay accepted the child as father.
7) Chillingworth was Hester's husband in the novel.Hester has affair with Dimmesdale and she was pregnant and child is her lover so he hatred to Hester and his aim was to give punishment to both and wants to take revenge with Hester and Dimmesdale.
8)Rahuls's mother belongs to rich class and priya belongs to middle class so She was very class conscious.She does not like middle class people.She thinks that Priya wants to marry with Rahul because of money,property.So she dislikes to Priya.
9)Rahul is ve Rich in the society .Rahul belongs to high class.Servents are there in his home.
But Priya's family belongs to middle class and style of living  both are different .
10)I think that Ajay really loved to Priya.He always stand near with Priya in happy ness and terrible situation.But I think that type of man we rarely seen in our life who accepted child of other without marriage so it possible in real life very rarely.

11)Hester was very strong woman.She was alone to faced the society .And she has only her daughter in her family.She  was good in her art work so she was no dependent to anyone and take care her daughter her own self.

But Priya has family who always send near by to her so her parents,brothers,Ajay gave Support to faced all the society and gave sympathy  her.So Priya was less strong to compare Hester.
12)In the novel Arthur Dimmesdale confess that he was the father of purl.
In the film Priya refused to marry with Rahul and decided to marry with Ajay.Ajay accepted Priya's child as father.

       Modern doesn't mean fashion,new style but here modern poems means before hundred years ago at the time of world war the poet use metaphor,symbols,new imagination in his poems called modern poetry.

'The Embankmen' by T.E.Hulme
  1)T.E Hulme was poet of 20th century.The 'Embankmen' is one of the best known poem.In this poem central idea that falling of man .Man has no courage no strength he wants to die.He has no confidence himself.The poem symbols to hopeless people.

2) Joseph Campbell - Darkness
"I stop to watch a star shine in the big hole,
A star no longer ,but a silver ribbon of light.
  Campbell was also Irish poet.This poem has only 4 lines.Darkness means absent of sunlight something happened bad no happiness in the poem.So we can feel some unhappy ness,dullness,depression,no light,lonelyness in this poem.

     This poem has only 3 lines.This was haiku.Poet says about something bad happened in the poem.Death and loneliness feel in the poem.

 The title suggesed the image of metro station.In a station there are crowd of many people and people are in hurry.we can see new faces in the metro stations.
  The apparition of these faces in the crowd , petals on a wet,black bough.

Touch you quiver like a sea fish
Cover you with my net.
What are you banded one?
  H.D.was connected to the nature pool is symbolically used two shore and cross the river.The poet says about catching fish with net in the river.
6)"Insouciance" by Richard Addington
   This poem is completed in 5 lines.Here the picture of poem poem come like death.We can see picture of world war in this poem.Stars,doves are metaphors in the poem.

7) Morning at the window by T.S . Eliot
"They are ratting breakfast plates in basement kitchens,...
   This poem written after break world war .This poem has completed into 9 lines.
  The poet show true picture after the world war .He saw hungry people.Childrens played in mud .So effect of world war seen in this poem.Situation is very bad.
8)'The Red wheel barrow' by William Carlos
'So much depends upon a red Wheelbarrow glazed with rain water besides the White chickens.'
The poet tries to say about white chickens and tried to say something red Wheelbarrow.We can thinks that he like animals,birds, we can imagine according our ideas about Red wheelbarrow and white chicken.

9)Anecdote of the Jar by Wallace Stevens.
'I placed a jar in Tennessee,and round it was,upon a hill....
It was best short poem of the poet.This poem has been completed into 12 lines.The poet say about jar on the hill.Jar like poet.So he connected to nature.

10)'I' by E.E Cummings
It's only contains four words like 'a leaf falls' one leaf fall down on the ground.We can picture of loneliness in this short poem.We image like we face all problems and all situation as single in the whole life.

The great Dictator

I seen the movie the great Dictator on 3rd July 2019 in the department of English.
Hitler was the ruler in 20th century.In the movie satire on political movement.The movie was mixture of comedy and tragedy.Comrsaly it was very popular film at the 20th century.Chaplin was in the double role in the film.Political back ground seen in the film.Hitler and Chaplin born in 1889 April.This is a story of between two world wars.Humanity was kicked somewhere.
 In Hitler time there is no court all decession take Hitler.He was the ruler of the all people.Hitler was very powerful person at that time.He had no sympathy to working class people.
 We can see in the movie first Chaplin took part in world war as soldier and there is some comic seen at that time.And he forgot about war and became barber.He had small shop but Hitler's followers gave many trouble to all working class people.He was very crude and cruel person.
So the movie was both comedy and tragedy.
In the end Chaplin gave powerful speech he satire on machinery he said "you are not cattle you are man ,you are not machine you are man."So in the end people think that Chaplin was Hitler but he was not Hitler.So in the movie we can seen how Hitler and his followers gave painfully life to working class people.At the end barber's speech very powerful
           All status are keeping hand high.

Charlie Chaplin

I seen the movie Charlie Chaplin on 25th June 2019 in the department of English.It was really nice and laughable movie.It show us the picture of the modern time in 20 th century.It shows what was the condition of the society at that time.We can see in the movie what is the present condition of the people.We can see in the movie most of the people were jobless.People had no job and no food.Because of hunger they want to do job.Work is required for every people.
  Comedy and tragedy both are mixture in the movie.And how to take tragedy of the life seen with laughter that's skill was shown in the movie.So people can enjoy the film with laugh and know about the present situation.
 We can see people became like machine in their job.In 20 th century in modern time inderstrialism machinery shown in Charlie Chaplin film.When people has no job this was the tragedy of life.We can seen the situation of working class people.
  Chaplin has dream about his own house in his life.So,movie represents picture of 20th century.At that time food,job are necessary .
